The hotel has two standard rooms that sleep couples, a mid size rooms that sleeps three, the Surfer Room that sleeps four and the Suite which also sleeps four. The Suite has AC, an Mini-Ref, and is more in the form of an apartment with its two floors, two balconies, and spacious social area. The pricing is very affordable with the standard rooms going at $25 to $30, and the Suite going at $45 to $50 per night. You will not find a better deal on the beaches of Costa Rica.

The Blue Pelican Bar and Restaurant is known for its cold beer and great food and drink. The menu is made up of local Costa Rican dishes, great Pizza, and various bocas such as Guacamole and Nachos. Every Saturday night the Bar has its weekly fiesta with local musicians and dancing.

Driving directions: In short, you can fly, drive, or take the bus to The Blue Pelican Inn, Playa San Miguel.  Your route will depend on which International Airport you decide to fly into. Liberia International is about three hours from the Blue Pelican and Juan Santa Maria International ( San Jose) is about six hours away.

Either airport has rental car services near by and renting a car is the way to go if you can afford it. You can also fly from San Jose on a jumper flight ( Nature Air or Sansa ) and land in Punta Islita in a half an hour. Islita is about twenty minutes from the Blue Pelican and we can pick you up there or you can arrange for a rental car to be delivered upon your arrival to Islita.

When driving from Liberia, you simply follow the map to Nicoya, then Carmona/Nandayure, Bejuco, Pueblo Nuevo, and then San Miguel is about two more KM ahead on the right you will see our signs.

From San Jose, you will want to take the ferry from Puntarenas to Playa Naranjo. Once in Playa Naranjo you will follow the signs to Jicaral, Coyote/San Francisco, and then once in Coyote/SF, you will take a right at the intesection and about 10 more KM on the left you will find the entrace to Playa San Miguel and as mentioned above, you will see our signs.....

Ferry Service from Puntarenas to Playa Naranjo:

When you arrive at the ferry port of Puntarenas or Naranjo, you make sure your vehicle is in the line for the ferry of your destination. A ferry representative will distribute a token to the drivers of vehicles in the line. Take this token to the ticket office to purchase a boarding ticket.

You may purchase tickets for all of the passengers traveling in your vehicle at the same time. A ticket purchased for the vehicle includes the driver. There are different rates for adults and children. Please do not allow any intermediaries loitering in the area to make the ticket purchase for you. As you drive or go on board, ferry employees will direct you into the ferry and show you where to park your vehicle. Your co-passengers need to walk into the ferry. Please turn off the motor until you reach the destination. You must return to the vehicle with the co-passengers before it reaches the destination port for timely disembarkation.

Bus Service to Playa Coyote and Playa San Miguel from San Jose:

The buses are run by Empresas Arsa, Tel. 2650 0179. Travel Time is approximately 6 hrs. The cost is $ 4. The bus takes you to Puntarenas and then over the Tempisque Bridge to Jicaral where you will change buses. From Jicaral you drive with a smaller bus to San Francisco de Coyote and then on to Playa San Miguel and Bejuco. Get of the bus at the intersection on the main road in Playa San Miguel and just walk to the beach and the Blue Pelican Inn.
